We are the Mods
Short film that gives you an insight into the Mod subculture (see also Teddy Boys, Teddy Girls and Rockers), a subculture that comes to light in "Quadrophenia"
While watching this short clip I took some notes on what was attributed to "being a mod" and found that, in terms of this video, "mod" and teenager could be interchangable. We spoke in class about the way teens elevate themselves above the "others". In this video it was said that being mod was "more unique, in a way". More importantly though the narrators speak about the ever changing idea of "mod". Like every teen they felt it was important to make it their own, be on the constant pursuit of "mod", never be satisfied, always looking for something better. Teens are in constant pursuit of their own sense of self and never seem to be satisfied. "Mod" could have been interchanged with "Teens" in general or any other teenage subculture for that matter.
I am an Associate Professor of English and Secondary Education at Rhode Island College, where I am also the Director of the Rhode Island Writing Project.
